Hi my name is Ed Jones

Since I was young I have always nurtured a passion for photography. I started out photographing landscapes but portrait & wedding photography has always piqued my interest; the human factor, capturing glancing moments and treasured memories, is what life’s all about.

Going back in time I left school at 16 with nothing in my future other than working as a life guard at a pool in York, that’s where I learned there are some things you cannot unsee! Given this realisation, I wasn’t there very long before I joined the British Army following in my mothers footsteps. I signed up as a metal smith then transferred to the Royal Artillery where I became a drone operator. The army gave me the opportunity to travel all over the world from Fiji to California and serve in Afghanistan in 2012 - 2013. Serving in the armed forces gives so many life experiences and a deep and profound appreciation of life and how important it is to make the most out of every day. Plus the skills to recover from stinking hangovers and the ability to fall asleep at a moments notice on a washing line. After 10 amazing/tiring/eye opening/funny years in the army I thought it was a natural time in my career to leave and commence the next chapter. My wife and I wanted to start a family and I wanted to be in a job where I was guaranteed to be home more often than I was away. Rosie and I got married in August 2019, I left the army in October that year and then we welcomed our beautiful little girl, Martha, in June 2021.

I’m currently working for my local council whilst expanding my photography and videography business. The job is great, it gives me the opportunity and time to come video or photograph all your lovely weddings.

My photography style is relaxed and natural, capturing the realness and beauty of your special day. As I don’t have a studio and live just outside the amazingly beautiful Lake District, I use that as my backdrop for all of my family shoots. I do have a drone and I am working towards getting my commercial license and hopefully will be fully qualified soon, giving me the ability to offer drone photography and videography as part of my packages.

The best thing about being a wedding photographer is being able to share and capture all of your special moments throughout your day, from the nerve wracking preparations and the building anticipation, to the crazy dance moves from your great aunt Hilda! Seriously though being given the opportunity and honour of photographing and/or recording one of the best days of your lives never gets old and I will never take it for granted. It’s truly amazing that I get to see the joy in peoples lives, the togetherness of family and friends and to celebrate two people taking the next step into the future as a team. Soaking up all of the emotions, all the laughs and tears (I sound like an emotion vampire) that come with a wedding really hit me in my feels and getting to relive the day while editing your photos or video just brings it all back and I get excited to be able to share that feeling again with my couples.

With me as your photographer you’ll get someone who is relaxed and just goes with the flow. I’ll try and make you guys feel as comfortable as possible to create a stunning set of pictures for you and your family to cherish forever. I’ll be on the periphery or disguised in plain sight happily snapping away. If you have any queries or would like to discuss my packages, then please click here and get in touch. I really look forward to speaking with you!
